Texas Basketball: 3 bold predictions for the Maui Invitational
1) Texas basketball bold predictions for Maui Invitational
Texas gets through Davidson and Indiana in the first two rounds
While Davidson should still give the Longhorns a good test in the first round of the Maui Invitational, it also likely won’t be the most difficult opponent in this tourney. In all likelihood, the toughest team that Texas could face in the first two rounds (out of the three possible opponents) is Indiana. As a true blue blood in the world of college hoops, that would be fun for Longhorns hoops fans to see this matchup.
The Hoosiers player that everyone would be watching if the Longhorns were to face Indiana in the second round of the Maui Invitational is the standout sophomore 6-foot-9 and 245 pound forward Trayce Jackson-Davis. The reigning All-Big Ten Freshman-Team selection had a sensational season debut. In a season-opening win for the Hoosiers over Tennessee Tech on Nov. 25, Jackson-Davis registered 26 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and one block.
If Texas does draw Indiana in the second round of the Maui Invitational, they would get one of their toughest tests of the entire non-conference slate. And if they’re hypothetically able to work through the Hoosiers, then they could have an ever tougher opponent in the Championship Round (i.e. UNC or Stanford).
There’s a number of stars that Texas could get to face in the Maui Invitational, Jackson-Davis included. Senior Providence center Nate Watson is another good example of a bigger star that the Longhorns could face in the second round of the Maui Invitational, depending on who wins and loses.
