1) Texas football HC candidates

The favorite: Urban Meyer, Former Florida/Ohio State HC

The former Ohio State and Florida Gators three-time National Championship winning head coach, and current Fox College Football analyst, Urban Meyer is the talk of the town if the Longhorns are to open up a true coaching search in the near future. Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports mentioned in a piece he released over the weekend that Meyer is the obvious candidate for the Longhorns if they are to part ways with Herman soon.

The fact that the top candidate in a true coaching search for Texas would be Meyer is a pretty obvious statement at this point. There are no concrete rumors about a Meyer-Texas connection, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened to some degree behind closed doors. Urban might have also thought about this job at some point (it’s hard not to given all the noise surrounding this matter right now).

Good and bad would come with the track record of hiring Meyer. He won one National Championship (back during the 2014 season) with Ohio State and two with Florida (2006 and 2008). But he also had to retire from the Ohio State head coaching role two years back due to consistent headaches that were paining him week-over-week.

Meyer left his last two stops because of various demons it looked like he was battling. Maybe he could get a similar thing in place on the Forty Acres that he did with Ohio State, in terms of grooming a replacement like current Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day. That idea must sound great to former Ohio State passing game coordinator and first-year Texas offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich right now.
