The most difficult matchup of this regular season so far arrived for Texas basketball head coach Shaka Smart in the second round of the Maui Invitational.

In the second round of the Maui Invitational, head coach Shaka Smart and No. 17 ranked Texas basketball gets to take on head coach Archie Miller and the upstart Indiana Hoosiers on Dec. 1. Texas was able to take care of business by a narrow two-point margin on Nov. 30, in a first round Maui Invitational triumph over the Davidson Wildcats.

If nothing else, the Longhorns proved that they are a little bit different than in recent years, where they often lost to a team like Davidson when they were challenged in the second half. The difference was the play down the stretch from the backcourt, including junior Courtney Ramey (who had a team-high 14 points in the win over Davidson).

It’s too early to tell how the Longhorns will turn out this college hoops season. This is a very weird year, but there was a lot left to be desired from the way last season ended for Smart and his squad. Texas had to have some major chip on their shoulder, with all of the talent, experience, and depth, coming back this season.

This is the biggest test for the Longhorns so far this season. They come into the second round of the Maui Invitational against the Hoosiers with a record of 2-0 (0-0 Big 12). Their first win of the season came over the UTRGV Vaqueros in a blowout at home back on Nov. 25, by the final score of 91-55.

Meanwhile, Indiana comes into this game with a record of 2-0 (0-0 Big Ten), after they cleared the Providence Friars in their first round matchup in the Maui Invitational. Indiana’s other win on the season came over Tennessee Tech, by the final score of 89-59.

With all of this in mind, here’s a look into three bold predictions as the Longhorns take on Indiana in the second round of the Maui Invitational on Dec. 1, with tip off set for 12:30 p.m. CT.
