There will reportedly be a “strong push” from administration to make that buyout for Texas football head coach Tom Herman if Urban is ready to come here.

There is so much chatter going on right now surrounding current Texas football head coach Tom Herman and a rising candidate in the Fox College Football analyst Urban Meyer. Texas is not finding much consistency on the field or on the recruiting trail right now under Herman’s direction. And there is a lot of optimism that Meyer could right the ship for Texas if they were able to hire him in the near future.

Meyer is the former Ohio State Buckeyes and Florida Gators three-time National Championship winning head coach, and he brings a long resume of success to the table. But there’s definitely no guarantees that the Longhorns would be able to lure him away from from retirement back to the college football coaching ranks.

But Texas is reportedly (per Horns247 paid content) going to have a “strong push” from the regents and boosters to put together the buyout for Herman and his coaching staff if there is bona fide interest from Meyer. It’s hard to tell the exact status of Meyer’s thinking right now, but there is definitely a lot of momentum behind the idea of him coming to Texas.

No exact report on where Meyer stands right now gives a clear idea on whether he wants to come to the Forty Acres. He had retired a couple of years ago as the Ohio State head coach due to health issues. And it hasn’t been all that long since he left Ohio State with an arachnoid cyst, and let current head coach Ryan Day take over the program.

It sounds like there is a large degree of satisfaction in Meyer for where he’s at right now. Granted it also sounds like the Texas administrations, regents, boosters, etc. is pushing very hard to get Meyer interested in taking the head coaching job.

Texas holds a record of 5-3 (4-3 Big 12) following their tough 23-20 loss on Black Friday/Senior Day at the hands of the Iowa State Cyclones (specifically on Nov. 27). They were bounced from both major polls and essentially lost their shot at getting a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game.

Next up for Herman and the Longhorns is a battle with head coach Chris Klieman and the slipping Kansas State Wildcats on the road in Manhattan on Dec. 5, with kick off set for 11 a.m. CT. All that Texas has remaining on the regular season schedule this year is the Kansas schools.
