Texas Football: 3 takeaways from thoroughly dominant win over K-State
A somewhat unexpected, be enormously convincing, 69-31 victory came from an offensive explosion for Texas football against Kansas State.
Although it might not make a whole lot of a difference in the minds of Texas football fans moving forward, fourth-year head coach Tom Herman really got his team up for this game against head coach Chris Klieman and the Kansas State Wildcats. Herman came into this game with a lot of pressure on his shoulders, as Texas is essentially eliminated from contention for a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game, come Dec. 19.
Texas carried a record of 5-3 (4-3 Big 12) into this game, coming off their disappointing loss to the previously No. 13 ranked Iowa State Cyclones on Senior Day/Black Friday, by the final score of 23-20. The loss to Iowa State came down to a lengthy 57-yard field goal attempt by junior kicker Cameron Dicker that he wound up missing.
Meanwhile, Kansas State came into this game with a record of 4-5 (4-4 Big 12), riding a four-game losing streak. Their last game resulted in a tough one-point loss at the hands of the Baylor Bears. Kansas State was looking like a potential favorite in the race for a Big 12 Title in their first four or five games of the season. But their season largely came off the rails since.
The Longhorns took control of this game early on, and really never looked back. Their ground game never relented, with true freshman running back Bijan Robinson and sophomore Roschon Johnson coming up huge against a faltering Kansas State defense. Senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger was efficient when needed, but he didn’t need to do much at all to win this game.
Texas got the dominant win over Kansas State, by the convincing final score of 69-31. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Casey Thompson even got some work late.
With all of this in mind, here’s a look into three takeaways from the Longhorns dominant 38-point win over the Wildcats on Dec. 5.
