1) Takeaways from Texas football’s win vs. K-State

Future at the skill positions is very bright

Very likely the biggest positive of this win over Kansas State for the Longhorns was the play of talented young players at the skill positions. The Texas ground game was largely what powered them to this dismantling of the Kansas State defense. Texas amassed a whopping 334 rushing yards (more than 10 yards per carry), and seven rushing touchdowns.

Of that, Robinson registered a whopping 172 rushing yards (on just nine carries), and three rushing touchdowns. That allowed Robinson to average more than 19 yards per carry in this game (a career best). Robinson also added 51 receiving yards on three catches, with no receiving touchdowns.

Johnson was very effective for this Texas offense too. He amassed 139 rushing yards on 14 attempts (9.9 yards per carry), and three rushing touchdowns. Johnson was also really good when called upon in the blocking game.

What added even more to the Longhorns ground game here was the fact that redshirt freshman wide receiver Jordan Whittington got his first career touchdown, on a 15 yard rush. Whittington burned the opposing defenders with his speed to the outside. He looked very good as he continues to work his way back from a plethora of injury issues over the last two years.

Next. 6 potential coaching replacements for Tom Herman. dark

Even with the future of Herman as Texas head coach looking murky as the 2020 season wanes, there is promise coming from all of these uber-talented and young skill position players. As long as Thompson (or someone like Hudson Card or Ja’Quinden Jackson) can come through at quarterback next year, the future of this offense looks bright under first-year offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.
