What did we learn from the win for Texas football head coach Tom Herman and his squad over the Kansas State Wildcats, by a dominant score of 69-31?

A nice win for fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman over head coach Chris Klieman and the Kansas State Wildcats on the afternoon of Dec. 5 did at least take some of the pressure off of the skipper’s hot seat. But it’s hard to tell just how much good the win over Kansas State did for Herman given the rather bleak outlook for this program’s future.

Texas got the win over Kansas State on the road at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan on Dec. 5 by the dominant final score of 69-31. First-year offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich saw his biggest, and most surprising, scoring outburst of the season to date this weekend. The Longhorns really kicked it into high gear in the third quarter, which they won by a score of 35-14.

It was the ground game that powered the Longhorns to get this 38-point victory over Kansas State. Texas saw a lot of promising flashes out of their young skill position players, and even some newer faces that had to step up on the defensive side of the ball. A lot of positive signs did emerge in this win.

Texas moves to a record of 6-3 (5-3 Big 12) after this win over Kansas State. The Longhorns did return to the top 25 in both major polls (at No. 23 in both the AP Poll and Coaches Poll). We will figure out later this week if the Longhorns make it back into the College Football Playoff Rankings, when they’re released on Dec. 8.

Meanwhile, Kansas State moves to a record of 4-6 (4-5 Big 12) on the season after this loss. This result extended Kansas State’s losing streak to five games.

Here’s a look into four overreactions from the Longhorns dismantling of Kansas State on Dec. 5.
