2) 2021 prospects Texas football will whiff on

As long as Herman and running backs coach Stan Drayton are able to get a commitment from the highly touted four-star Cy-Fair rusher LJ Johnson this cycle, then it is not worth panicking over missing this particular five-star prospect on the list. But it would still hurt if the elite five-star Lakeview Centennial running back Camar Wheaton were to land with a rival like Oklahoma or Texas A&M over the Longhorns.

This uber-talented 5-foot-11 and 190 pound rusher hails out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. And while he was a big target for Herman and the Longhorns for most of this recruiting cycle, they weren’t ever likely to land commitments from both Johnson and Wheaton. That’s why it’s not the worst thing in the world if he gets away from Texas this cycle.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions for Wheaton do have all of their experts picking his commitment to go to the Sooners over Texas and the rest of the competition. Texas A&M and Texas could still technically be in the running to land Wheaton’s commitment, but they look to be fading fast. And he’s set for a Dec. 23 decision date.

Wheaton does have 27 schools on his impressive offer sheet. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Nebraska, Ohio State, Tennessee Volunteers, and USC Trojans.

Moreover, he ranks as the nation’s No. 26 2021 high school prospect, No. 2 running back, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 59 high school prospect, No. 4 running back, and No. 10 prospect out of Texas.
