4-Star Texas football WR target Antonio Harmon trending Mississippi St
With the start of the Early Signing Period for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class roughly five days away, some prospects aren’t trending their way.
There’s now less than one full week before the arrival of the Early Signing Period, which will really start to form the final product of the 2021 Texas football recruiting class. Fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman put together a solid 2021 recruiting class at the outset of this cycle coming to the forefront. But results have deviated a bit of late.
One big time target of the Longhorns 2021 class of late, four-star lengthy 6-foot-4 and 205 pound Kosciusko wide receiver Antonio Harmon, seems to be closer to narrowing down his commitment decision of late. Harmon was figured to be one of the more realistic prospects that Texas could get a commitment from either ahead of the Early Signing Period, or even National Signing Day.
There’s no set decision date, as of the morning of Dec. 11, for Harmon.
For a good while there, Harmon was trending to land with the Longhorns. Texas was one of the programs making big headway in the pursuit to land a commitment from Harmon. The Longhorns were also the most recent school to send a scholarship offer to Harmon, which came back on June 3, 2020.
There are also 10 other schools that offered Harmon, as of the morning of Dec. 11. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Louisville Cardinals, Oregon Ducks, and SMU Mustangs.
But of the schools that have offered Harmon thus far, the one trending to land his commitment at the moment is Mississippi State. Former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Mike Leach appears to be the one making real headway with Harmon heading into the Early Signing Period.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions now have all of their experts picking Harmon to commit to Mississippi State over Texas and the rest of the field. And the Rivals FutureCast has 80 percent of their publishers and analysts picking Harmon to commit to Mississippi State.
The writing is on the wall for the Longhorns that Harmon might be getting away from their grasp. Texas wide receivers coach Andre Coleman did do some good work for a while to get the interests of Harmon over to the Forty Acres, but things are not trending his way of late.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 17 in the nation and holds steady in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas currently holds 19 commits in their 2021 class, with the latest coming from four-star former Baylor Bears defensive tackle pledge Byron Murphy II.
