3) Hindsight Texas football HC replacements for Herman

Joe Brady, Carolina Panthers OC

I’ve been beating on the drum that the Longhorns should’ve looked at the former LSU Tigers offensive coordinator, currently with the Carolina Panthers in the NFL, Joe Brady to be their next head coach if they replaced Herman. The fast rise to prominence in both the college and NFL coaching ranks is a sign of more success to come for Brady.

The Assistant Coach of the Year in college football last year is making a difference for the Panthers offense this season too in the NFL. In almost every major statistical category, the Panthers offense is improved, despite a number of injuries and offseason changes to key personnel.

Brady got a lot of his concepts that he’s developed in recent years from his time as an offensive assistant under head coach Sean Payton with the New Orleans Saints. He then continued to show what he can do with a potent and talented offense when he and star quarterback Joe Burrow took LSU to win a National Championship last season.

Texas once considered Brady for their offensive coordinator job that opened up last offseason. They wound up filling that role with the former Ohio State passing game coordinator Mike Yurcich, which brought mixed results thus far.

It shouldn’t be all that long before Brady is called upon to get a head coaching job either at a major college landing spot, or even in the NFL, if he continues down the path he’s on now. Texas would be wise to see what he can bring to the table if Herman is even replaced after next season.
