If head coach Tom Herman and the Texas football program wants to fill any roster holes out of the transfer portal, who are some early candidates?

A common storyline that will start to take hold for fourth-year head coach Tom Herman and the Texas football program next offseason will be what happens for them in the NCAA Transfer Portal. As is well known for the Texas program in recent years, the transfer portal can be a two-way street that has both a negative and positive impact on teams around the college football landscape.

Last offseason, the Longhorns saw key players such as wide receiver Jordan Pouncey, offensive tackle JP Urquidez, and linebacker Caleb Johnson put their names into the transfer portal. But they also had some key additions to this year’s roster, like wide receivers Tarik Black and Brenden Schooler.

Even this fall, the Longhorns saw more key players like sophomore cornerback Kenyatta Watson II and redshirt freshman defensive end Myron Warren put their names into the portal. Watson II has already committed to take his talents to join the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, back in his home state, this year. Warren is yet to find another home at this point.

On the counter, the Longhorns appear to be in contact with a few potential transfer portal targets before next offseason even arrives. It’s good for Herman and his staff to get ahead of the game, especially with the raw amount of starters that they could lose on both sides of the ball in 2021.

With all of this in mind, here’s a look into three Longhorns transfer portal targets that Herman and his staff already appear to be in contact with.
