3) Transfers Texas football is in contact with

Definitely the potential transfer portal target getting the most hype and discussion at the moment for Herman and first-year defensive coordinator/safeties coach Chris Ash is a former Florida State Seminoles safety. This former elite blue chip recruit that was an integral part of the Florida State 2018 recruiting class, redshirt sophomore safety Jaiden Lars-Woodbey, is in firm contact with the Longhorns coaching staff right now.

Lars-Woodbey is reportedly (per 247Sports) now down to four schools after putting his name in the transfer portal within the last few weeks. Texas is one of those four finalist schools for Lars-Woodbey. That list also includes the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Boston College Eagles, and Washington Huskies. His finalists are truly spread all over the map.

And here’s what Lars-Woodbey had to say on the pursuit of Texas after putting his name in the portal.

"I just visited Texas earlier in the week and really liked it there. It’s a dead period so we can’t visit and meet up with the coaches but I had a lot of the players there take me around the campus and show me around the city as well. Austin is really cool and it’s a beautiful area. I want to major in Urban Planning Development and there’s actually a lot of that going on right now in Austin so it’s a good fit there."

In bits and pieces of three years playing for Florida State (including four games this season), Lars-Woodbey was solid for their secondary. He registered 106 career combined tackles, seven tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, nine pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

Coming out of St. John Bosco in Fontana, CA, Lars-Woodbey ranked as the nation’s No. 35 2018 high school prospect, No. 4 safety, and No. 5 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite).

Texas would be looking to replace the likes of junior standout safety Caden Sterns and/or redshirt senior safety Chris Brown in 2021 if they were able to snag a commitment from Lars-Woodbey out of the portal.
