Texas Football: 3 must have 2021 commits ahead of Early Signing Period
Hopefully things are starting to fall in place for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class now just one day ahead of the start of the Early Signing Period.
If we’re, in a sense, forming a wish list for what remains available for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class, there’s a lot to cover. Texas has a lot of emerging needs, both in terms of positional areas and just with overall talent levels, in their 2021 and 2022 classes. Due to a lack of consistency on the recruiting trail for fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman this fall, the 2021 and 2022 classes have a lot of question marks heading into this Early Signing Period.
With the Early Signing Period beginning of the morning of Dec. 16, Herman and the Longhorns staff have a lot to figure out, and they need to do it fast. Texas has a few key positional needs in their 2021 class, such as adding a blue chip wide receiver, stocking up offensive line depth, and landing a true second big-time commit.
Detrimental events on the recruiting trail of late for Texas includes the decommitment of underrated three-star Bishop Kenny center Michael Myslinski earlier this month, and the flipping of the commitment of the elite four-star Denton-Ryan athlete Billy Bowman Jr. Herman and the Longhorns lost the commitment of Bowman Jr. back in early October, and he ultimately wound up landing with head coach Lincoln Riley and the rival Oklahoma Sooners.
As of the morning of Dec. 15, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 17 in the nation and holds steady in the second spot in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma, per the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings. Texas currently holds 18 commits in their 2021 class, with the highest rated being the highly coveted five-star Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders.
With all of this in mind, here’s a look into three must have 2021 commitments for the Longhorns just one day ahead of the start of the Early Signing Period.
