1) Bold predictions for Texas basketball vs. SHSU

Courtney Ramey and Greg Brown both shoot better than 50 percent from downtown

The Longhorns dynamic backcourt pairing, in the starting five, of Coleman and junior standout guard Courtney Ramey has finally lived up to the hype since the latter portion of last season. The latter of those two standout Texas guards is on a scorching hot streak on the offensive end of the floor since the end of last season too.

Ramey has scored in double figures in each of the Longhorns six games this season. That streak could very likely keep against Sam Houston State. He’s started in all six games that he’s played in so far this season. And Ramey averaged 14.7 points per game, 3.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.3 blocks. He shot 42.6 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 87.0 percent from the free-throw line.

He’s really efficient shooting from downtown and finding his teammates for open looks early in this season.

Moreover, the overall production and efficiency from another key player in Texas’ starting five, freshman power forward and former five-star recruit Greg Brown, paints a mixed picture so far. Brown started in all six games he’s played in so far this season. And he’s averaged 9.8 points per game, 6.0 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.3 steals, and 1.2 blocks.

Brown shot 37.7 percent from the field, 20.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line. The shooting percentages and advanced metrics for Brown show that he needs to improve a lot of areas of his game entering Big 12 play. But this game against the Bearkats is yet another shot for him to improve his efficiency before the Oklahoma State matchup on Dec. 20.
