Texas football 2021 position-by-position class grades
Offensive Line
The highest rated offensive linemen that is signed down in the Longhorns 2021 class thus far is the three-star 6-foot-6 and 315 pound Katy-Taylor offensive tackle Hayden Conner. This sizable offensive lineman hailing out of Katy, TX, was an early commitment for offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator Herb Hand in this 2021 class.
Conner wound up choosing Texas over offers from 19 other schools. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included the Baylor Bears, Colorado Buffaloes, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Wisconsin Badgers.
Moreover, Conner ranks as the nation’s No. 389 2021 high school prospect, No. 30 offensive tackle, and No. 54 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 63 offensive tackle and No. 106 prospect out of Texas.
The disappointment for the way that the Longhorns recruited in the trenches on the offensive side of the ball for this cycle can’t be understated. Herman and Hand just weren’t able to get it done with their top offensive line targets for their 2021 class. That includes the likes of the Brockermeyer brothers and five-star offensive guard Donovan Jackson.
However, they had to make up ground fast whey they targeted, and landed a commitment from, three-star Strake Jesuit 6-foot-4 and 275 pound offensive tackle Max Merril. The Houston, TX, native chose Texas over offers from nearly 40 other schools. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included the Arizona State Sun Devils, Boise State Broncos, Colorado, Duke, Indiana Hoosiers, Louisville Cardinals, Memphis Tigers, Purdue Boilermakers, SMU Mustangs, and UCF Knights.
He ranks as the nation’s No. 1,085 2021 high school prospect, No. 95 offensive tackle, and No. 162 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
