2) Biggest 2021 Texas football recruiting disappointments

Letting a key wide receiver target slip away

More so than just letting one key wide receiver target of the Longhorns 2021 class slip away, they didn’t really get any help for their receiving corps during the Early Signing Period. There was a chance, that if he announced his commitment during the Early Signing Period, that Texas could get help in the form of three-star Rudder wideout Keithron Lee.

But there’s still no announcement in line yet for Lee. He could wait until after the turn of the calendar year, or even on National Signing Day, to announce that decision to the public.

What Texas missed out on the most at the wide receiver position during the Early Signing Period was a key four-star Mississippi native. Four-star 6-foot-4 and 205 pound Kosciusko wide receiver Antonio Harmon started trending to land with head coach Mike Leach and the Mississippi State Bulldogs about seven or 10 days before the Early Signing Period.

Harmon gave his commitment to Mississippi State on Dec. 16 (and signed his National Letter of Intent on the same day) over offers from Texas and nine other schools. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included the Georgia Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels, LSU Tigers, Oregon Ducks, and SMU Mustangs. He was a top 300 high school prospect in the nation for this cycle, and was a big miss for Herman and the Longhorns.

After missing out on Harmon, Texas was left still with two wide receiver commits/signees in their 2021 class. Those two are the three-star Monarch product Jaden Alexis and three-star Warren Easton product Casey Cain. Alexis is the higher rated of the two Longhorns wide receiver signees, but still isn’t a blue chip prospect.
