Texas Football: 3 biggest disappointments for Herman in 2021 class
1) Biggest 2021 Texas football recruiting disappointments
Not adding help at quarterback/not having a single offensive blue chip commit
Unless the Longhorns want to play Sanders on the offensive side of the ball, Texas went without a single blue chip commit in their 2021 class among this group. Namely Texas wasn’t able to get quarterback help in this class beyond the likes of the underrated three-star former Iowa State Cyclones commit and Austin High product Charles Wright.
There was a chance that the Longhorns could try and win over the interest of the four-star Texas Tech Red Raiders pro-style quarterback commit and Eastland product Behren Morton. But on Dec. 16, Morton wound up signing his letter of intent to stick with head coach Matt Wells and the Red Raiders. That stung since Texas saw the commitment of the talented four-star Katy-Tompkins dual-threat quarterback Jalen Milroe flip to the Alabama Crimson Tide before the start of this season.
Milroe also wound up signing his letter of intent to play for head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide during the Early Signing Period. It’s hard to tell if there is any quarterback help out there in this cycle for the Longhorns at this point in time. Even if there is, the options are really dwindling down and will be highly sought after by more than just Texas.
Once the time for senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger is done on the Forty Acres (following the end of this season in all likelihood) then the competition will likely come down to redshirt sophomore Casey Thompson and freshman Hudson Card. That is unless Herman and the Longhorns are willing to look to the transfer portal for depth help in the quarterback room next year.
