A key member of the 2020 Texas football recruiting class, former 4-Star QB prospect Ja’Quinden Jackson, put his name in the portal earlier this week.

Shocking news emerged for fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman and his squad early this week, with the announcement that freshman quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson intends to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal ahead of next offseason. Jackson was one of the crown jewels of the 2020 Texas recruiting class, as a highly touted four-star product hailing out of Duncanville High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

What Herman and the Longhorns are losing now that Jackson’s name is in the transfer portal is one of their top five highest rated signees/commits in the 2020 class. And Jackson looked to be set to compete for the starting quarterback job next fall now that senior star signal caller Sam Ehlinger looks to enter the 2021 NFL Draft following the conclusion of this season.

Jackson was supposed to compete alongside the likes of freshman Hudson Card and redshirt sophomore Casey Thompson for the starting job in the post-Ehlinger era next year.

Moreover, Jackson was a highly touted product coming out of the Duncanville program that ranked as the nation’s No. 73 2020 high school prospect, No. 3 dual-threat quarterback, and No. 10 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranked him as the nation’s No. 46 high school prospect, No. 3 dual-threat quarterback, and No. 7 prospect out of Texas.

Jackson didn’t really get any meaningful game snaps this fall since Thompson remained second at quarterback on the depth chart most of the way. He even sat behind Card for much of the season in the quarterback room. That’s likely part of the reason why he’s in the portal now.

With all of this in mind, here’s a look into three potential landing spots for Jackson out of the portal next offseason.
