4) Instant impact 2021 Texas football early signees

Despite a highly publicized stat line that will blow you away from this high school football season, this Texas running back commit is still not getting even close to the national respect he deserves. This proven and potent 6-foot and 185 pound Hallettsville running back Jonathon Brooks is a three-star prospect that still never got all that many offers during his recruitment prior to signing with Texas.

The Texas native Brooks chose to commit to the Longhorns 2021 class over offers from just six other schools. A few of the other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included the Colorado State Rams, Texas State Bobcats, Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and UTSA Roadrunners.

Moreover, Brooks ranks as the nation’s No. 420 2021 high school prospect, No. 23 running back, and No. 60 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 25 running back and No. 70 prospect out of Texas. He really should’ve received a bigger boost in his prospect ranking after his standout senior year.

The importance of Brooks will become that much greater for the Longhorns if they don’t wind up landing a commitment from the elite four-star Cy-Fair running back LJ Johnson ahead of National Signing Day. Brooks is a versatile running back that can make an impact in multiple phases of the game, including special teams. His speed and agility are underrated and he has the size and strength to consistently run between the tackles.
