Texas Basketball: 3 bold predictions in Big 12 opener vs. OK State

Jericho Sims finally gets a double-double and leads Texas to a win
The play of the frontcourt has largely brought mixed results for Smart and the Longhorns so far this season. The ups and downs of the usual starters, senior center Jericho Sims and true freshman talented power forward Greg Brown, was subsided a bit by the efficient play of a few other big men off the bench.
To start the season, it looked like Sims could turn into a double-double machine (in a way as anticipated for his senior campaign). But that momentum was killed off pretty fast. He’s off to a pretty disappointing start. He’s started in all seven games he’s played in for the Longhorns so far this season, but his minutes dwindled a bit of late.
Sims averaged 6.6 points per game, 6.4 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.7 blocks. And he’s shot 43.8 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line.
If Sims can find his footing against the Pokes to open up Big 12 play, this could be a special game for him. He’s only scored in double figures once so far this season, and it came in the opener against UTRGV. The following game he rebounded in double figures, but he’s only done that once this season too.
Sims was solid in the past against the Pokes in his career, and he needs to be big again. This Oklahoma State frontcourt has a lot of holes that will open up opportunities for Sims to get his first double-double of the season, which could ultimately help lead Texas to victory.
