3) Most likely bowls for Texas football

Cheez-It Bowl, Dec. 29

One of the bowl games that always sounds the worst to land in for any big name Big 12 team is the Cheez-It Bowl. Last year, the Cheez-It Bowl didn’t have any Big 12 teams competing in that game. It had the Air Force Falcons (out of the Mountain West Conference) battling the Washington State Cougars (out of the PAC-12).

Yet, the Big 12 is looking to work its way back into the Cheez-It Bowl with the Longhorns as one of the few teams on the shortlist likely to take part in the action. Other possible teams in the Cheez-It Bowl this year could include the likes of the Oklahoma State Cowboys and TCU Horned Frogs. Texas does tend to find itself in that middle tier of Big 12 teams.

According to a report on the Twitter timeline of Brett McMurphy on the afternoon of Dec. 20, the ACC team represented in the Cheez-It Bowl this year will be the Miami Hurricanes and head coach Manny Diaz. That would be pretty interesting if Texas was to face its former defensive coordinator and a talented Miami team in a postseason game.

There looked to be a chance that the Longhorns could get to face their former head coach Mack Brown and the upstart North Carolina Tar Heels this postseason. But since the Tar Heels landed in the Orange Bowl against the Longhorns Lone Star Showdown rival Texas A&M Aggies, that possibility is now off the table.

The Cheez-It Bowl will be played at Camping World Stadium on Dec. 29, 2020, with kick off time set for 4:30 p.m. CT.
