2) Most likely bowls for Texas football

Texas Bowl, Dec. 31

What would not be the worst bowl game landing spot for the Longhorns, as it sounds on the surface, is the Mercari Texas Bowl. A strong local fan base showing and a matchup against a decent SEC team sounds fine for the Longhorns, given the disappointing result once again from this regular season.

If Texas were to land in the Texas Bowl, it would likely come against a middle tier SEC team such as the Arkansas Razorbacks, Tennessee Volunteers, or the Ole Miss Rebels. Even the Mississippi State Bulldogs or Auburn Tigers could find themselves in the Texas Bowl, depending on how things shake out in the SEC bowl bid order this weekend.

The most appealing matchup of those potential possibilities would likely either be Arkansas or Ole Miss. If Texas got to face Auburn, that would be interesting. But that is definitely the least likely of any of those aforementioned possibilities.

If the LSU Tigers and head coach Ed Orgeron hadn’t put in place their self-imposed postseason ban, they might be a likely outcome for the Longhorns in the Texas Bowl. That would be fun since the Texas-LSU game, that was supposed to be played in Baton Rouge this year, was canceled in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Texas Bowl is set to be played on New Years Eve, Dec. 31, and the kick off time is yet to be decided. It will be played at the home of the Houston Texans, at NRG Stadium.
