Texas Football: 3 most likely bowl game projections for the Longhorns
1) Most likely bowls for Texas football
Alamo Bowl, Dec. 29
What would likely be the best case scenario for the Longhorns for their bowl destination is the Alamo Bowl. While the matchup from the PAC-12 likely would not be too juicy, it is at least one of the top tier bowl games that a Big 12 team can land in. And maybe there is a decent PAC-12 opponent on tap for the Longhorns if they play in the Alamo Bowl for the second straight year.
Last year, Texas found themselves in a similar situation to where they didn’t know which particular bowl game they would play in. Texas was in a knot with the likes of Oklahoma State and Kansas State to figure out where they could land in the postseason Big 12 bid order. But they ultimately got the top bid and landed in the Alamo Bowl.
That would wind up being great for Herman and the Longhorns, as they dominated the No. 11 ranked Utah Utes and head coach Kyle Whittingtham to the tune of a 38-10 win. That win over Utah likely helped seal up Herman’s job security heading into last offseason, and gave Texas their eighth win to round out last season.
It is probably going to be either Oklahoma State, Texas, or Iowa State that lands in the Alamo Bowl this year. Iowa State is probably the favorite of that trio, with Texas second in line since they beat Oklahoma State this fall. The likely opponent from the PAC-12 looks to be either the Colorado Buffaloes or USC Trojans.
The Alamo Bowl is set to take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Dec. 29, with kick off time yet to be determined.
