Texas football opens as big underdogs in Alamo Bowl vs. Colorado
No. 20 ranked Texas football lands in the Alamo Bowl for the second year in a row, this time facing the former Big 12 foe Colorado.
The spot that No. 20 ranked Texas football and fourth-year head coach Tom Herman landed in for the postseason was actually a pretty good slotting, all things considered. Texas landed in the Alamo Bowl for the second straight year, this time set to face the Colorado Buffaloes out of the PAC-12.
Last year, Herman and the Longhorns got to take on the No. 11 ranked Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio. And that Alamo Bowl resulted in a convincing win for the Longhorns over the Utes, by the final score of 38-10.
Moreover, Texas and Colorado will matchup in the Alamo Bowl to round out this season on Dec. 29 at 9 p.m. CT at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
On the surface, it feels like the Longhorns should be favorited over their former Big 12 foe Colorado. But the opening odds from Draft Kings actually had the Buffs as a sizable 12-point favorite over the Longhorns.
And the over/under for this game to open up was set at 64 points.
Texas comes into this Alamo Bowl with a record of 6-3 (5-3 Big 12), with their last game resulting in a 69-31 dismantling of the Kansas State Wildcats and head coach Chris Klieman on the road in Manhattan back on Dec. 5. Their regular season finale was supposed to come on the road on Dec. 12 against the winless Kansas Jayhawks. But that game wound up being canceled in the wake of novel coronavirus related issues on the Longhorns side.
Meanwhile, Colorado comes into this game with a record of 4-1 (3-1 PAC-12), with their last game resulting a 38-21 loss in the Rumble in the Rockies to Utah back on Dec. 12. If not for that loss, Colorado would’ve competed with the USC Trojans for the PAC-12 South Championship and a shot at the PAC-12 Championship Game this weekend against the Oregon Ducks.

Texas could really use a win to end this roller coaster ride of a season on a high note. Herman could also use the win to keep as much pressure as possible off of his shoulders heading into next offseason.
