2) Takeaways from Texas basketball’s win over OK State

Courtney Ramey slows, Andrew Jones catches fire

My bold prediction for this game that the Longhorns were going to get a season and game-high 25 points out of the junior guard Courtney Ramey wound up being very wrong. In fact, Ramey had maybe the worst offensive performance of his college career to date in this win over Oklahoma State. He was held to a goose egg on the score sheet.

This was the first time since Ramey’s true freshman campaign, back during the 2018-19 regular season, that he was held to zero points when he played at least 30 minutes. To go along with his zero points in this game, Ramey registered one rebound, one assist, one steal, no blocks, and two turnovers. He even fouled out in the second half.

Ramey also shot 0-of-6 from the field and 0-of-3 from beyond the arc.

What made up for the lack of offensive production from Ramey was the elevated play from redshirt junior former five-star recruit and shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones. The 6-foot-4 and 195 pound Irving, TX, native Jones had one of his best outings of the season so far in this win over the Pokes.

The previous single-game high in points for Jones this season was 13, which he scored on two occasions. He blew that mark away in this game, as he registered 22 points in 34 minutes on the floor. To go along with his season-high 22 points, Jones posted seven rebounds, four assists, no steals, and no blocks. He shot an efficient 8-of-17 from the field, 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
