Where could head coach Tom Herman and his 2021 Texas football recruiting class turn for answers after a pedestrian Early Signing Period?

A rather quiet Early Signing Period for fourth-year head coach Tom Herman and the 2021 Texas football recruiting class wound up resulting in a lot left to be desired for this group. Texas signed a decent, but not great, class mostly during the first day of the Early Signing Period. It is important to note that Texas did sign their grand prize in the 2021 class on the morning of the first day of the Early Signing Period (Dec. 16).

That highly coveted home run signing in the Longhorns 2021 class is the elite five-star Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders. Since Herman and the Longhorns lost the likes of Sanders’ uber-talented teammate and four-star Denton-Ryan athlete Billy Bowman Jr., who wound up flipping his commitment to and signing with the Oklahoma Sooners, getting their five-star prospect signed was huge.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class holds steady at No. 17 in the nation at still sits behind Oklahoma in the second spot in the Big 12. Texas currently holds commitments from 19 prospects in their 2021 class. Of those 19 commits, 18 were able to sign their National Letter of Intent during the Early Signing Period.

Texas did land one commit from a high school prospect during the Early Signing Period, from three-star Holy Cross strong-side defensive end Barryn Sorrell. And they hauled in one key addition from the NCAA Transfer Portal in the former McNeese State cornerback Darion Dunn.

There’s still a lot left for the Longhorns to do to try and seal up this 2021 class in the best fashion possible with the Early Signing Period now in the rear view mirror.

Here’s a look into four key prospects for the Longhorns 2021 class ahead of National Signing Day.
