3) 2021 Texas football targets ahead of NSD

Maybe the biggest area of need for the Longhorns in the 2021 class, beyond just adding blue chip talent on the offensive side of the ball in general, is getting help in the trenches. Offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator Herb Hand didn’t have the greatest recruiting cycle this time around, and pressure might start falling on his shoulders in the very near future to perform better.

Texas missed out on a large number of elite blue chip offensive linemen in this cycle. That list includes the Brockermeyer brothers, four-star Duncanville product Savion Byrd, five-star offensive guard Donovan Jackson, four-star offensive tackle Bryce Foster, among others. He needs to respond in a strong sense ahead of National Signing Day.

Two key targets could come to the forefront along the offensive line for Hand and the Longhorns in the next couple of months. One is a target that was on the Longhorns radar for a while now, in four-star Parisch Episcopal offensive tackle Austin Uke. And the other is the unheralded four-star Helix offensive guard Josh Simmons.

As a prospect with a recruitment that is now apparently wide open, Simmons might be a target along the offensive line that Texas could make some headway with in the coming weeks. The California native currently holds offers from Texas, and more than 25 other schools.

Other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the San Diego State Aztecs, Oregon Ducks, Boise State Broncos, Duke Blue Devils, Georgia, Miami, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oklahoma, Penn State, USC, and Washington Huskies.

Moreover, Simmons ranks as the nation’s No. 304 2021 high school prospect, No. 17 offensive guard, and No. 26 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 21 offensive guard and No. 35 prospect out of California.
