2) 2021 Texas football targets ahead of NSD

The name that should be top of mind for all Longhorns fans to get through the remainder of this recruiting cycle is the elite four-star Cy-Fair running back LJ Johnson. This uber-talented 5-foot-10 and 205 pound versatile Cypress, TX, native is the grand prize target among uncommitted targets ahead of National Signing Day for running backs coach Stan Drayton and the Longhorns.

Definitely what will be the most significant battle on the recruiting trail for the rest of this cycle among any high school prospect between the Lone Star Showdown rivals will be for the commitment of Johnson. A plethora of other schools are trying to stay in the mix for Johnson, but this recruitment looks like one that will just boil down to Texas and Texas A&M.

The lone running back commit in the 2021 class at the moment is the underrated three-star Hallettsville product Jonathon Brooks. Adding both Brooks and Johnson in the 2021 class would be huge for Texas.

Johnson currently holds offers from Texas, Texas A&M, and more than 35 other schools. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Oklahoma, LSU Tigers, Florida Gators, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Penn State, Stanford Cardinal, TCU, Tennessee, and USC.

Moreover, Johnson ranks as the nation’s No. 40 2021 high school prospect, No. 3 running back, and No. 8 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 also ranks him as the nation’s No. 40 high school prospect, No. 3 running back, and the No. 5 prospect out of Texas.
