Texas Football: 4 biggest 2021 targets ahead of National Signing Day
One of the newest potential recruiting targets to the table for the Longhorns 2021 class is the turbulent, but talented, four-star Mansfield Legacy strong-side defensive end David Abiara. This stout 6-foot-4 and 250 pound defensive end/edge rusher is a former commit of head coach Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Abiara wound up decommitting from Notre Dame just a few weeks ahead of the start of the Early Signing Period, specifically on Nov. 25. That was less than nine months after he originally committed to Notre Dame, back in late March.
Texas is actually one of the more recent scholarship offers that Abiara received, coming back on May 25, 2020. The Longhorns along with the Indiana Hoosiers and SMU Mustangs are the only three programs to send Abiara scholarship offers since he committed to Notre Dame.
For a good while, it looked like Abiara was trending to land with head coach Lincoln Riley and the Sooners. But it sounds like Texas very much remains in play to land a commitment from Abiara. He currently holds offers from 25 schools. Other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Arizona State Sun Devils, Alabama, LSU, Michigan State, Northwestern Wildcats, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Texas A&M, and Wisconsin Badgers.
Moreover, Abiara ranks as the nation’s No. 358 2021 high school prospect, No. 24 strong-side defensive end, and No. 51 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 40 strong-side defensive end and No. 104 prospect out of Texas.
