Where Tom Herman slotted Texas football in last Coaches Poll
The latest versions of the AP Poll and Coaches Poll had Texas football and fourth-year head coach Tom Herman firmly ranked at No. 20.
The final round of major polls for the 2020 college football regular season were delivered over the weekend. And both the AP Poll and Coaches Poll had the Texas football program ranked well within the top 25. Each of these major polls had Texas in the same spot in the top 25.
In the latest version of the AP Poll and Coaches Poll, the Longhorns are slotted at No. 20. This week’s AP Poll had the Longhorns sandwiched between the No. 19 Louisiana Ragin Cajuns and No. 21 Oklahoma State Cowboys. And the Coaches Poll for this week sandwiched the Longhorns between the No. 19 San Jose State Spartans and the No. 21 USC Trojans.
With this roller coaster ride of a 2020 college football regular season in the books, both major polls did look pretty different heading into the postseason. And now with bowl season firmly among us around the college football landscape, the polls are sure to get another major shakeup here in a few weeks.
So where did fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman slot his team individually for his vote in the latest Coaches Poll?
It didn’t look like Herman reportedly had any hot takes on the Coaches Poll for this. Nor did he rank his team too high compared to the rest of the field. Herman placed the Longhorns at No. 18 in his Coaches Poll vote for this week.
But Herman also kept the top six the exact same that they turned out in the Coaches Poll anyway. He also put his Alamo Bowl opponent, and former Big 12 foe Colorado Buffaloes, at No. 25. Colorado didn’t wind up getting into the top 25 in either of the major polls this week.
All in all, Herman wasn’t all that far off from getting Texas in the slot they would eventually wind up in for this week’s Coaches Poll.
Texas is set to take on Colorado in their second straight Alamo Bowl appearance in the postseason. Alamo Bowl kick off time is set for Dec. 29 at 8 p.m. CT at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Herman and the Longhorns rounded up the 2020 regular season with a record of 6-3 (5-3 Big 12) following their 69-31 dismantling on the road of the Kansas State Wildcats back on Dec. 5. Even if Texas does take care of business in the Alamo Bowl, this season under Herman’s direction is likely to largely be considered a disappointment.
