One of the more surprising early entrants for the 2021 NFL Draft out of the Texas football program to end this season is wide receiver Brennan Eagles.

The losses might be heavier than originally anticipated for fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman to the 2021 NFL Draft. Entering next offseason, it looks like Texas will be losing a good amount of starters on both sides of the ball. The latest big early entrant into the 2021 NFL Draft for Texas is the sizable 6-foot-4 and 230 pound junior wide receiver and former four-star recruit Brennan Eagles.

On the evening of Dec. 22, Eagles announced on his Twitter timeline that he would not only enter the 2021 NFL Draft early, but he will be foregoing the Longhorns postseason game. Texas is set to face their former Big 12 foe, the Colorado Buffaloes out the PAC-12, in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio on Dec. 29.

The last game that Eagles will have ever played in for the Longhorns came on Dec. 5, in Texas’ dismantling of the Kansas State Wildcats by the final score of 69-31 on the road in Manhattan. Eagles did have a solid junior campaign, and likely cashed out when his draft stock was high.

Eagles isn’t considered by many to be projected as a day one or day two pick in next year’s draft. But his stock could rise if he does well throughout the draft scouting process. He did at least round out his college career on a high note, with a productive 2020 season.

During the 2020 regular season, Eagles played in nine games for the Longhorns. He registered 28 catches for 469 receiving yards (16.8 yards per catch), with five receiving touchdowns. Eagles finished up the season with the most receiving yards on the team, and the second most touchdown catches (behind redshirt sophomore wideout Joshua Moore).

For his three years playing for Texas, Eagles registered 1,026 career receiving yards on 61 catches (also 16.8 yards per catch), with 11 touchdown receptions. Eagles did have a problem with drops last season (highest on the team with nine), but he mostly fixed that this fall.

Texas finished up the 2020 regular season with a record of 6-3 (5-3 Big 12), after beating Kansas State in their final game on Dec. 5. They will next face Colorado in the Alamo Bowl, now without Eagles in the receiving corps, on Dec. 29.
