Texas Football: Grading early entrant 2021 NFL Draft decisions
Grading draft decisions for Texas football entrants
Brennan Eagles, Wide Receiver
As possibly one of the more surprising early entrants for the 2021 NFL Draft among now former Longhorns players, junior wide receiver Brennan Eagles and former highly touted four-star recruit could also be cashing out while his stock is higher. Eagles did have a solid run this fall, dramatically decreasing the number of drops he had compared to last year.
It’s hard to exactly pin where Eagles will fall in the 2021 draft. But the most realistic spot for him to land should be around middle-to-late in the day three rounds.
In three years playing for Texas, Eagles registered 61 catches for 1,026 receiving yards, good for 16.8 yards per catch, and 11 touchdown catches. He led the Longhorns this season in receiving yards (469) and was second in touchdown catches behind Joshua Moore (five).
There might be some benefit to Eagles returning next fall, but you can’t fault him for wanting to cash out now and take his talents to the next level.
Draft decision grade: B-
Samuel Cosmi, Offensive Tackle
Maybe the best NFL Draft prospect for next year’s class coming off of the Forty Acres is the standout 6-foot-7 and 305 pound redshirt junior offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi. As the steadiest and most talented offensive linemen in front of Ehlinger over the course of the last two or three seasons, Cosmi deserves the first round draft grade that he might get soon.
There should be no shock coming from the Longhorns fan base that Cosmi is entering the 2021 NFL Draft one year early. He looks to be projected as a first round pick come next spring, and he’ll get paid after some really good work in three years playing for Texas.
Cosmi declared before Texas had their bowl game slotting, but that was to be expected.
