Adding more talent and depth at the quarterback position in the 2021 Texas football recruiting class will be slim pickings ahead of NSD.

One of the most notable remaining areas of need for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class, if there’s any way that fourth-year head coach Tom Herman and first-year offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich can address it, is at quarterback. Texas didn’t have any sort of good fortune in the months leading up to the Early Signing Period at the quarterback position in either their 2021 or 2022 classes.

Herman and the Longhorns had originally landed a potentially program changing commitment for their 2022 class in the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers back in mid-August. But it wasn’t long before Ewers decommitted from Texas, and ultimately wound up flipping his pledge to join head coach Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Losing in-state talent to the likes of Ohio State is starting to become too much of a regularity for the Longhorns.

Nonetheless, the lone quarterback commit/signee in the 2021 class for the Longhorns after the Early Signing Period is the three-star former Iowa State Cyclones pledge and Austin High pro-style signal caller Charles Wright. After Texas landed the original commitment from Ewers back in the late summer, they also saw their former four-star Katy-Tompkins dual-threat quarterback pledge Jalen Milroe flip to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Essentially Texas lost both Ewers and Milroe in the span of just a couple of months, decimating their 2021 and 2022 classes at the quarterback position. To make up for that, Texas still could haul in one more underrated three-star commit at the position in the 2021 class. There’s not much left out there, but if Texas is set to lose senior Sam Ehlinger heading into the offseason, something might need to be done.

Here’s a look into three of the best remaining uncommitted potential quarterback prospects that the Longhorns could target for their 2021 class after the Early Signing Period.
