Turning the attention to filling a number of gaps along the offensive line for Herman and offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator Herb Hand; there’s not much better that they could do right now than with this talented sophomore offensive guard. Texas would do well to land a commitment out of the transfer portal from the likes of standout sophomore Virginia Tech Hokies offensive guard Doug Nester.

While it is very unlikely that Herman, Hand, and the Longhorns could get a commitment out of Nester at this point in time, he would be a very nice Christmas gift for this offensive line. He looks like he could be well on his way to taking his talents to another program close to home, and one that is a Big 12 foe of the Longhorns.

Three expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Transfer Portal Predictions all have Nester giving his commitment off the open market to the West Virginia Mountaineers and second-year head coach Neal Brown. That would make sense since Nester is a former highly touted four-star recruit that is a native of Huntington, WV.

Coming out of Spring Valley High School in Huntington, WV, Nester ranked as the nation’s No. 106 2020 high school prospect, No. 6 offensive guard, and No. 2 prospect out of West Virginia (247Sports Composite).

Nester did really well during his sophomore campaign playing along the Virginia Tech offensive line. In just over 430 snaps played during the 2020 regular season, Nester allowed only three quarterback pressure, three QB hits, and no sacks. He also committed just two penalties this fall.
