Texas Football: 4 transfer portal gifts Herman would love for Christmas
2) Texas football transfer portal gifts for Herman
Another unlikely get out of the transfer portal for Herman and the Longhorns, that would still be a fantastic Christmas gift addition to the program, would be the former top JUCO recruit in the nation and senior edge rusher Jermaine Johnson. This stout 6-foot-6 and 250 pound lengthy edge rusher played really well for the Georgia Bulldogs this fall through seven games before putting his name in the transfer portal.
Through those aforementioned seven games played this fall for Johnson with the Dawgs and head coach Kirby Smart, Johnson registered 16 combined tackles, five tackles for loss, five sacks, and one pass breakup. And for his two years playing for Georgia over the last two seasons, he registered 36 career combined tackles, seven tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
Johnson would be a huge addition for the Longhorns front seven, especially with the loss of the star junior linebacker Joseph Ossai looming for next offseason. But it does look like the Florida Gators and Penn State Nittany Lions are the current front runners to land a commitment from Johnson out of the transfer portal.
It wasn’t all that long ago that Johnson was the nation’s most highly touted JUCO prospect, which came back during the 2019 recruiting cycle. He will be a huge piece for what will likely either be the Penn State or Florida front seven come next fall. Although it is a nice thought that Texas could be able to go after him.
