Former Texas football assistants Todd Orlando and Craig Naivar won over freshman safety Xavion Alford to get him to transfer to USC.

News that came very fast after he originally put his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal earlier in the week emerged from the former Texas football freshman safety and four-star recruit Xavion Alford. This one-year Texas Ex put his name in the transfer portal, and landed with head coach Clay Helton and the USC Trojans in the matter of just a couple of days.

Namely it will be Alford reuniting with the former Longhorns defensive coordinator that recruited him during the last full cycle, and current USC DC Todd Orlando. He will also be re-joining a former Texas assistant in Craig Naivar at USC, so it’s not too surprising that Alford is deciding to take his talents to join the Trojans.

The announcement of Alford’s transfer to USC was announced on his Twitter timeline on Christmas morning, on Dec. 25. His name wasn’t in the transfer portal for long at all before declaring where he would take his talents to next.

Here’s more on what Alford had to say on his decision to transfer to USC after just one year on the Forty Acres (thanks to 247Sports).

"“USC had a great year in my eyes making it to the PAC-12 championship,” Alford said. “Although they came up short, they played great and showed flashes of becoming a problem In college football. I’m glad I get to add to that problem.”"

Alford only played in a handful of games this fall for the Longhorns before opting to transfer heading into next offseason. He racked up four combined tackles in just two games played this season.

Moreover, Alford was a big part of the Longhorns 2020 recruiting class. This former four-star safety recruit that hailed out of Shadow Creek High School in Pearland, TX, was one of the highest rated defensive backs in the 2020 class. He ranked as the nation’s No. 139 2020 high school prospect, No. 8 safety, and No. 22 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).

In the matter of just the last few weeks, Texas lost two key blue chip commits from their 2020 class to the transfer portal. Freshman quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson put his name in the portal and landed with the Utah Utes, and now Alford is gone to the PAC-12 to join USC.
