A meeting with a former Big 12 foe, the Colorado Buffaloes, in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29 could present some underrated matchups at the skill positions.

Entering a key Alamo Bowl showdown for the second year in a row, fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman needs to have his team ready to try and get their seventh win to round out this absolutely wild 2020 college football season. Texas had one of the biggest roller coaster rides of a regular season of any blue blood program across the college football landscape.

Herman and the Longhorns rounded out a crazy regular season (in which their de facto regular season finale against the Kansas Jayhawks on Dec. 12 was canceled due to novel coronavirus related issues) winning four of their last five games. Texas finished up with a record of 6-3 (5-3 Big 12) following their 69-31 dismantling of the Kansas State Wildcats on the road back on Dec. 5.

The opposition for the Longhorns in the Alamo Bowl this postseason will be the upstart Colorado Buffaloes out of the PAC-12, under the direction of first-year head coach Karl Dorrell. Colorado comes into the Alamo Bowl with a record of 4-1 (3-1 PAC-12), with their last game resulting in a tough loss to the Utah Utes back on Dec. 12 in the Rumble in the Rockies.

Texas and Colorado are set to kick off the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29 at 8 p.m. CT at the Alamodome in San Antonio. At this point, the Longhorns are a pretty heavy favorite by a two possession margin to win this bowl game. And the ESPN matchup predictor (per the Football Power Index) gives Texas a 79.9 percent chance to win the Alamo Bowl.

Underestimating the Buffs would be a drastic mistake for the Longhorns, though. Colorado was maybe the biggest surprise in a weird very shortened year for the PAC-12. Here’s a look into four problematic Buffs players for the Longhorns in the Alamo Bowl.
