Texas Football: 4 problematic Buffs players for the Longhorns
3) Problematic Buffs for Texas football
While the ground game is definitely going to be the main point of emphasis entering the Alamo Bowl for the Longhorns defense in stopping Colorado’s offensive attack, they can’t let pass defense completely slip. There’s two potent skill position threats in the Colorado receiving corps that the Texas secondary is going to have to keep an eye on.
And the main star for the Colorado receiving corps (or at least the primary target in the passing game) is the elusive 5-foot-11 and 195 pound redshirt sophomore wideout Dimitri Stanley. It is also important for the Longhorns to pay attention to the versatile Vontae Shenault.
Stanley is a threat from all over the field (from the line of scrimmage, all the way to the deep passing game) for Colorado’s offense. In three of five games played this season, Stanley had long receptions of at least 20 yards. And in two games, he had receptions of at least 30 yards.
In five games played this season in total, Stanley registered 16 catches for a team-high 249 receiving yards (15.6 yards per catch), and one receiving touchdown. A little less than half of his receiving yards came as yards after the catch (119 on the season so far). And he has 12 first downs, no fumbles, and just two drops on the season.
Stanley is the type of threat that can make the Longhorns pay if they’re missing a lot of tackles in the open field and he does possess the ability to take the top off the defense too. They have to watch out for creative usage of Stanley in the Colorado offense in this game.
