1) Bold predictions for Texas football in the Alamo Bowl

Sam Ehlinger totals four touchdowns, and keeps a clean turnover sheet

The decision of star senior Texas signal caller Sam Ehlinger of whether to enter the 2021 NFL Draft or return to the Forty Acres for a fifth year will be crucial for Herman and this team next offseason. Ehlinger led this Longhorns team for the better part of the last four years, although he split a lot of the snaps with former Texas quarterback Shane Buechele during his true freshman campaign in 2017.

In nine games played during the regular season, Ehlinger registered a 60.1 completion percentage, 2,406 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 8.8 adjusted yards per passing attempt, and a 149.9 passer efficiency rating. To add to that mark, he rushed for 382 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground this fall.

Ehlinger holds a number of passing and rushing records for the Longhorns given the volume of games for which he’s played in during the last four seasons. More could be broken in this Alamo Bowl against Colorado.

Moreover, Ehlinger really stood out in Texas’ Alamo Bowl win last year over Utah, by the dominant final score of 38-10. He tends to do exactly what’s needed for Texas in the postseason, as he’s 2-0 in two tries in bowl games.

Colorado’s pass defense was pretty good this fall, allowing just over 200 yards through the air per game and around 1.5 passing touchdowns. They also forced more turnovers per game during the regular season than they allowed passing touchdowns. This will be a challenge for Ehlinger, but one that he should be up to the task for.
