A shorthanded Texas football team will have to find a way to overcome a much improved Colorado Buffaloes team in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.

We’re now just one day away from the kick off of the Alamo Bowl between No. 20 ranked Texas football and the one-loss Colorado Buffaloes, set for 8 p.m. CT on Dec. 29 in San Antonio. Texas is looking to nab their seventh win to round out this crazy college football season. And Colorado will be looking for their fifth.

Fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman could use the win in the Alamo Bowl for the second year in a row to help his case for job security heading into next offseason. If there is any chance that Texas athletic director Chris del Conte still wants to conduct any sort of coaching search next offseason, then it would likely happen with a loss to Colorado on Dec. 29.

Herman and the Longhorns come into this postseason meeting with their former Big 12 foe Colorado with a record of 6-3 (5-3 Big 12). They come into bowl season after winning four of their last five games to round out the regular season. Their last game resulted in a 69-31 dismantling of the Kansas State Wildcats and head coach Chris Klieman back on Dec. 5 on the road in Manhattan.

Meanwhile, Colorado comes into the Alamo Bowl with a record of 4-1 (3-1 PAC-12). They started off their shortened regular season slate with four straight wins before falling short in their finale on Dec. 12 in the Rumble in the Rockies at the hands of the Utah Utes. Colorado was one win away from potentially playing in the PAC-12 Championship Game this season.

But Texas is an eight point favorite one day ahead of kick off over Colorado in the Alamo Bowl. That would be a narrow margin of victory for the Longhorns by their usual postseason considerations under Herman’s direction.

Here’s a look into three reasons why the Longhorns can dominate the Buffs in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.
