2) Why Texas football will dominate Colorado

The possible last game for Sam Ehlinger with Texas

It’s hard to know at the moment whether the Longhorns star senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger will wind up declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft following the conclusion of this season. Ehlinger does have the option to return for a fifth year on the Forty Acres if he so decides that is the best route forward for him.

While it would be huge for the Longhorns to get Ehlinger back for at least one more season, there’s no guarantee that will happen. He is still set to participate in the Senior Bowl next month, which is one indication that he could be taking his talents to the NFL come the 2021 draft next spring.

Moreover, if this is in fact the final game for Ehlinger in a Longhorns uniform then it could be a big one for him. Ehlinger, just like Herman, has done well this fall when he (and his team’s) back is up against the wall. He played the role of hero for the Longhorns on a number of occasions this season, including in the wins over the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Oklahoma State.

He could have a big day against a solid, but short staffed, Colorado defense in the Alamo Bowl.

In nine games played during the regular season, Ehlinger was efficient and took good care of the football for Texas. He registered a 60.1 completion percentage, 2,406 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 8.8 adjusted yards per passing attempt, and a 149.9 passer efficiency rating. He also added 382 rushing yards (3.5 yards per carry), and eight scores on the ground.

Just in games in the month of December in general, Ehlinger was really good in his career so far. In the month of December, Ehlinger registered 936 career passing yards, eight passing touchdowns, two interceptions, 126 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns, and a sparkling 175 passer efficiency rating.

The Colorado defense is improved under the direction of first-year head coach Karl Dorrell this fall, but Ehlinger is going to be one of the best quarterbacks (maybe the best) that they face in 2020.
