3) Biggest losses for Texas football vs. CU

There are now multiple losses that are important to note for each receiving corps for the Longhorns and the Buffs in the Alamo Bowl. On the Texas side, they’ve now seen the likes of junior wide receiver Brennan Eagles and senior former Michigan Wolverines graduate transfer Tarik Black play in their final game of their college careers.

Eagles wound up opting out of the rest of the 2020 season following Texas’ Dec. 5 road win over Kansas State, to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft. And it looks like Black has started the preparation process for the NFL Draft too since he won’t play for the Longhorns in the Alamo Bowl (per Horns247 report, paid content).

Since this list is mostly comprised of the recent, and more surprising opt outs and/or injuries, for the Longhorns for the postseason, Black makes it over Eagles.

Now that Texas is down two sizable possession receivers for the Alamo Bowl, against a much improved Colorado defense, Herman and first-year offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich will have to look elsewhere for answers. Senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger will have a tougher time in the passing game now too.

Black played in six games during the regular season for the Longhorns. He registered 10 catches for 240 receiving yards (a whopping 24.0 yards per catch), and one touchdown catch this fall. That lets Black round out his college career, between his time with Michigan and Texas, with 50 catches for 749 receiving yards (14.9 yards per catch) and three touchdown catches.

Texas could give the start at the X-wide receiver spot now to senior Brenden Schooler with both Eagles and Black out.
