It sounds like fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman is keeping in high spirits for his team’s confidence heading into the Alamo Bowl.

For a team like No. 20 ranked Texas football, that had such lofty preseason expectations this year, there is usually a concern about how the team will feel about getting motivated for a non-New Years Six Bowl. Fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman still seems optimistic about how his team will show out in the Alamo Bowl against their former Big 12 foe, the Colorado Buffaloes, come the night of Dec. 29.

In his press conference prior to kick off of the Alamo Bowl against first-year head coach Karl Dorrell and the Buffs in San Antonio on Dec. 29, Herman talked on a number of different key points. Those included the opt outs and players missing the Alamo Bowl due to various injury issues, motivation, and any position/role switches entering this game.

One of the most important talking points for Herman in this press conference was his team’s preparedness and overall level of motivation for this bowl game. Herman was reportedly (monologue thanks to Horns247) keeping high hopes about how his team looked in practice and their level of motivation leading into this game.

Herman stated that his “guys are excited to play” in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.

There is some level of credibility to Herman’s optimism in this regard. He holds an undefeated record of 3-0 as Texas head coach in postseason games up to this point. Last season, the Longhorns defeated the No. 11 ranked Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl by the dominant final score of 38-10. Texas was a pretty big underdog heading into that game.

And two years ago, Herman got his biggest bowl win as an FBS head coach, over the No. 5 ranked Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl by a one-touchdown margin. He also started out his first year as Texas head coach with a nice Texas Bowl win over the Mizzou Tigers by a double-digit margin to round out the 2017 campaign.

Herman and the Longhorns come into the Alamo Bowl against the Buffs with a record of 6-3 (5-3 Big 12), after winning four of their last five games to round out the regular season. Their last game resulting in a 69-31 dismantling of the Kansas State Wildcats on the road back on Dec. 5.
