Which three head coaching candidates, that either were or are realistic options, would be the most preferable for Texas football fans heading into 2021?

After the turn of the calendar year, most people around the globe are going to be hoping that 2021 is better than the 12 months prior. This includes a lot of fans of the Texas football program, who endured quite the roller coaster ride of a 2020 season that just rounded up on Dec. 29. Fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman saw one of the craziest runs in 2020 of all of the coaches in his position that also had a really challenging year.

Herman and the Longhorns finished off the 2020 season after a nice Alamo Bowl victory over the Colorado Buffaloes out of the PAC-12 at the Alamodome in San Antonio on the night of Dec. 29. Texas got the win over their former Big 12 foe Colorado by the final score of 55-23. This team really put on a show in their last two games of this crazy campaign.

Texas finished up this season with a record of 7-3 (5-3 Big 12), winning five of their last six games. Herman saw his Longhorns team also dismantle the Kansas State Wildcats and head coach Chris Klieman in their de facto regular season finale on the road back on Dec. 5 by the final score of 69-31.

On the surface, the way that Texas finished off this season would seem like it would satisfy a good portion of the fan base. But some of the more important losses early in the season, and past negative trends rearing their ugly again in the case of Herman as head coach caused more frustration on the Forty Acres.

It’s hard to know if Texas athletic director Chris del Conte will still want to conduct a coaching search heading into the offseason. But here’s a look at three head coaching candidates that would be on a New Years resolution list for CDC and the Longhorns for 2021.
