Texas Football: 3 HC candidates the Horns would love to get for 2021
1) HC candidates Texas football fans would love in 2021
Urban Meyer, Former Ohio State Head coach
Definitely what was considered to be the potential home run hire for the Longhorns, if they were able to get him interested in returning to the college football coaching ranks in 2021, was the current Fox College Football analyst Urban Meyer. Texas couldn’t get much more of a sure thing in terms of a successful hire to replace Herman as head coach than with Meyer.
This three-time National Championship winning legendary head coach that is most well known for his time with the Ohio State Buckeyes and Florida Gators did return a couple of years ago due to health reasons. And that is largely why CDC and the Longhorns administration didn’t seem to be able to get solid traction with Meyer in their pursuit of him earlier in the season.
Moreover, Meyer won two BCS National Championships during his time as the Gators head coach. And he won the first ever College Football Playoff National Championship with Ohio State to round out the 2018 season. He retired at the end of the 2018 college football season, handing the reigns of the Buckeyes program over to their current head coach Ryan Day.
There’s not much of a shot at this point, by all indications, that the Longhorns will be able to hire Meyer to be their next head coach anytime soon. But it is still a nice thought that the Longhorns could get a home run hire to usher this Texas program into a new era of success. Setting a measuring stick for what would be the best head coaching hire could be a good move after the turn of the calendar year.
