3) Texas football assistant targets early for Sark

About the most pressing assistant spot for the Longhorns to figure out, beyond the coordinators, will be the offensive line coach. Texas already had an offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator in Herb Hand that found himself in hot water this fall. The results that Hand and Herman produced on the recruiting trail last year for the Longhorns 2021 class weren’t ideal.

Texas most significantly missed out on the likes of the highly coveted Brockermeyer brothers last July. As legacies of the University of Texas, the Longhorns should’ve had a slam dunk to get commitments from the likes of four-star center James Brockermeyer and five-star offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer.

However, Texas lost out on the commitments of the Brockermeyer brothers to the Crimson Tide and Alabama offensive line coach Kyle Flood. The former Rutgers Scarlet Knights head coach (prior to current Texas defensive coordinator Chris Ash taking over the program) Flood served as Alabama’s offensive line coach for the last two years.

Flood is responsible for one of the more impressive recruiting jobs of any offensive line coach in the nation for the last two cycles. And he’s doing well to help continue to develop this Alabama offensive line. According to Football Outsiders, Alabama’s offensive line ranked in the top 10 in the FBS in line yards, standard down line yards, and power success rate, so far this season.

If Texas does change lanes for their offensive line coach on staff during the offseason, then Flood would be a great way to go instead of Hand.
