Texas Football: 3 top assistant coach targets for Sark early on
1) Texas football assistant targets early for Sark
Keary Colbert, USC WR Coach
The revolving door of the Longhorns wide receivers coaches over the course of the last two or three years looked to be more settled this year under the direction of the recently promoted former Kansas State Wildcats co-offensive coordinator Andre Coleman. Texas parted ways with Drew Mehringer and Corby Meekins (former co-wide receivers coaches) last offseason, and then promoted Coleman from his offensive analyst role entering the 2020 season.
It doesn’t feel like the Longhorns are planning on keeping around Coleman, though, heading into this offseason. Sark should consider the tight relationships that Coleman built with some of the more talented players in this Texas receiving corps of late, but that would be the most significant thing on this assistant coaching decision.
One potential big time target that Sark could go after to be his wide receivers coach starting next fall is the current USC Trojans assistant and former USC wide receiver Keary Colbert. The 62nd overall pick in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft of the Carolina Panthers returned to start a career in the college football coaching ranks not too recently.
Colbert served as the USC wide receivers coach for the last two years. And he held various other roles on staff with USC head coach Clay Helton since the 2016 season, including inside receivers coach and tight ends coach. Colbert started out his run as a wide receivers coach at the college ranks with Georgia State back during the 2013 season.
Consistently improving his performance on the recruiting trail and in helping develop wide receiver talent with the USC program, Colbert could be a real gem find for the staff of Sark on the Forty Acres.
