Now former Texas football head coach Tom Herman released a statement following his firing just two days after the news first arrived last weekend.

In the statement he released following his departure from the Texas football program over the weekend, now former fourth-year head coach Tom Herman opened up on his thoughts in the midst of this tough situation for him. Herman didn’t get to go too far into detail in what was released to the public eye following his firing from Texas, but there were still some notable parts for the fan base.

The Longhorns parted ways with Herman after four years as head coach on the Forty Acres back on the morning of Jan. 2. And the reports from various sources started to arise simultaneously to the Herman firing news on the morning of Jan. 2 that Texas would be hiring the current Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator and the Broyles Award winner Steve Sarkisian as his replacement.

The statement that Herman released out of the crazy weekend of all of this coaching carousel on the Forty Acres came via the Twitter timeline of Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports on the evening of Jan. 4.

One of the more significant parts of the statement from Herman is as following.

"“It has been a great honor, and as an alumnus, Texas will always hold a special place in my heart.”"

As Thamel mentioned in his tweet early this week, Herman’s statement was at least both professional and timely following this crazy news. There are a few other recently departed former Power Five head coaches that didn’t treat this situation with as much class and/or professionalism as Herman and his coaching staff did so far.

Moreover, Herman rounded out his tenure during four years as the Texas head coach with a record of 32-18. During the 2020 campaign in particular, Herman and the Longhorns finished up with a record of 7-3 (5-3 Big 12), following their Alamo Bowl win over the Colorado Buffaloes back on Dec. 29, by the final score of 55-23.
