1) Grading Sark’s Texas football staff hires so far

Kyle Flood, Offensive Line Coach

Definitely the most significant hire to the new look Texas coaching staff under Sark’s direction of late was bringing aboard the Alabama offensive line coach Kyle Flood to replace Herb Hand in the same role. The Longhorns had Hand on board as their offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator for just shy of three years.

But the recruiting difficulties in the trenches for the 2021 cycle had a lot of pressure amounting on Hand of late. Texas didn’t do a great job with an insane crop of in-state offensive line talent during the 2021 recruiting cycle.

Where Texas decided to go for their hire as their next offensive line coach was with one of the more notable and accomplished assistants in the Power Five with Flood. And if Sark can manage to get both Flood and Banks to the Forty Acres on his staff, from head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide, then it would be a major accomplish for this program.

Flood is a top notch recruiter that served as Alabama’s offensive line coach for the last two seasons. Prior to that, he served in various roles (including head coach prior to Ash) with the Rutgers coaching staff since the 2005 season. He’s a very experienced and well regarded offensive line coach around the college football landscape.

Even if Herman had remained as the Texas head coach in 2021, there was a change needed in this part of the coaching staff. Flood is a great hire for Texas, and should bring a lot of success in his position group both on the field and on the recruiting trail in the near future.
