The 2022 Texas football recruiting class wouldn’t possibly get a bigger boost than getting 5-Star QB Quinn Ewers committed back from Ohio State.

It’s not necessarily that he predicted it to for sure happen in this recruiting cycle, but the former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback and college football media personality Greg McElroy did at least give thought to the idea of a huge event on the trail for Texas football. McElroy mentioned this week that he does think it’s possible for the recently hired Texas head coach and former Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian to flip the commitment of a key 2022 five-star recruit.

McElroy at least talked about the idea of Sark flipping the commitment of the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers back to the Longhorns in the near future, or at least at some point ahead of the Early Signing Period 2021 (per 247Sports). Texas getting the pledge of Ewers back with their 2022 recruiting class would be massive.

While, at the moment, it’s not something that Longhorns fans should realistically expect that the commitment of Ewers will return from head coach Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes back to Texas. But it is certainly a possibility given the likely momentum that the Texas offense is going to gain on the recruiting trail, especially in the 2022 class.

Ewers originally committed to Texas back in mid-August, but then re-opened his recruitment soon thereafter in late October. He then essentially wound up flipping his commitment from Texas to Ohio State on Nov. 19. But the Early Signing Period is still a long ways away and Texas could at least get back in contact with Ewers in the near future.

The insanely talented 6-foot-3 and 195 pound signal caller is a native of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and ranks as the Top247 and 247Sports Composite top 2022 high school prospect in the nation. Even getting back in contact with him and getting some level of his interest back to the Forty Acres would be a big win for Sark.

A big win for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail that could help spark some interest from Ewers in coming back to Texas was Sark landing the commitment of the highly coveted four-star Lewisville wide receiver Armani Winfield. Texas landing yet another top 100 ranked high school prospect in the nation for their 2022 class should do nothing but help them in their pursuit to win Ewers back.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 16 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas has two commits in their 2022 class at the moment, with their highest ranked being Winfield.
